Lifelong Learning

As we get older and our interests and skill levels continue to evolve, the need to continue to reinvent ourselves will persist. Most of us will find ourselves longing to do something different that may be outside of our comfort zone. As exciting as that it is, it can also be an intimidating place to be but there is one thing to remember and George Elliot said it best, “It’s never too late to be what you might have been.”

As the third quarter comes to a close, I find myself reflecting on when I decided to make a career transition into the field of public relations. I was very excited for my new journey, but I knew that I had quite a bit of work to do in order to make the transition a success. I knew I’d need to continue along the path of lifelong learning. Fortunately, access to information in the digital age is much easier and becoming informed on any topic is a much lighter lift.  I found social media platforms such as YouTube, LinkedIn Communities, and Facebook Groups to be incredibly helpful and influential in my career development. I have attended conferences, workshops, and networked with other professionals to help increase my understanding of the industry.  I’ve been able to understand how to solve problems faster and provide unique perspectives on various issues, all aiding me in my transition and my pursuit of being a lifelong learner.

Learning can help improve our quality of life in so many ways. Reading the newspaper, online articles, or even listening to a podcast can give us a world of knowledge and a totally new perspective to go along with it.  Reinventing yourself and learning new things is a rewarding journey, but it’s up to you to take it new heights. It’s never too late to become who you are destined to be.
