It’s Not Too Late

When I was driving home after my workout this morning, I saw a student, probably in middle school, standing at the bus stop. It was 6:30 a.m. and dark outside. My first reaction upon seeing their shapeless form illuminated by the light from a cell phone was to wonder, “Why is this baby standing on this corner alone when it’s dark outside?”  My second thought was, “Oh my goodness, it is September, school is back in session, the weather will be changing soon, and everyone will be working at full steam.”

If you think about it, September is a very important month both personally and professionally. It’s a month of transition— 30 days to conduct a complete assessment of where we are with business goals and personal resolutions ambitiously set back in January. Now is the time to decide which goals were achieved, craft a strategy to reach those that are still on track, and start crossing off items that just are no longer realistic for this year.

Now is the time to take out a piece of paper and a pen (or open a Word document) and have a transparent conversation with yourself. Update your vision board, your weight loss progress, your business and financial goals—whatever plans you set for 2023. Once October comes, the end of the year will quickly approach, and by then it will be too late. Make a commitment that September will be the month that you dedicate to yourself so you can end the year strong. You deserve it. At least, I believe you do, and so should you.
