Throughout the month of October, Herd Strategies has strived to provide a platform for stories of breast cancer survivors and share resources for survivors and their caregivers in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This week, we are amplifying a service that can be incredibly empowering for survivors during their recovery process: medical and mastectomy tattooing.

This month, we are celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Through our October theme, #CheckYourself, we hope to amplify the voices of survivors, share resources in our community and highlight the importance of monitoring breast health. This week, we are featuring Lisa Patton, a multi-talented community servant-leader who uses her position at the nation’s leading cancer-fighting organization to help improve health equity and eliminate disparities in cancer healthcare.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our theme for October is #CheckYourself, emphasizing the importance of monitoring your breast health. This week, we are highlighting a breast cancer survivor whose story reminds us to live every day to its fullest: Dawn Hughes. Normally, we ask our features questions to guide our writing, but Dawn's responses were so powerful that we knew our words wouldn't do them justice. We hope her story inspires you as much as it did us.
