Your Civic Engagement Toolkit: Voting Guides, Registration Info, Local Events, and Ways to Participate
April 2026
Indiana’s Primary Election is on May 5, and the General Election on November 3, which means now is the time to start getting ready to vote. Not the week before. Not when people start posting reminders online. NOW.
I have been thinking about that a lot lately, especially with all the attention around the SAVE Act. While it may not be an active law now, it has raised real concerns about the extra hurdles some voters could face if documentation requirements become stricter. For people who are married, have changed their name, moved, or have records that do not all match, that conversation hits differently. It is a reminder that even though we have the right to vote, higher powers can make exercising that right as difficult as possible.
That’s why it’s more important now than ever to make sure you’re prepared for this upcoming election. Take a look at the list below and see if you’re ready.
Your Indiana Voting Checklist:
Check your registration. Visit the Indiana Voter Portal and make sure your name, address, and registration status are correct, and confirm where you are registered to vote.
Know the dates. Indiana’s Primary Election is May 5, and the General Election is November 3. Waiting until the last minute makes everything more stressful than it needs to be.
Look up your voting options. Check when early voting starts in your county, where you should vote, and whether absentee voting is an option for you.
Find your important documents now. If you are married or have changed your name, go ahead and locate your birth certificate, passport, or name change documents. The SAVE Act is not in effect as of now, but it’s important to be prepared.
Research your candidates. Take some time to look into who is on your ballot and what those offices actually impact. Click here to explore Indiana’s full candidate list for the 2026 election.
Make a plan to vote. Decide now whether you are voting early, absentee if eligible, or on Election Day. Make a group chat and bring all your people to the polls!
Your vote is your voice, but preparation is what makes sure it gets heard. Get ready now, and show up when it counts.
