What We’re Seeing in Indy: Women Under 40 Shaping the Next Era of Leadership

March 2026

Across the city, women under 40 are leading in journalism, housing, workforce development, community engagement, and many other areas, shaping what our future will look like. What stands out to me most is that their leadership does not always come with a spotlight. More often, it looks like consistency, care, strategy, and the kind of work that creates lasting impact, even when it is happening behind the scenes.

That is part of why their leadership feels so necessary right now. Indianapolis does not just need more leaders. We need leaders who know how to listen, who understand community, and who are willing to build something more thoughtful, more inclusive, and more honest. The women we are highlighting reflect exactly that.

When I think about Ariana Beedie, I think about leadership rooted in trust and presence. Her work as a journalist and storyteller reflects a deep commitment to people and to this city. Kelly Doucet reminds me that some of the most meaningful leadership happens through relationships, follow-through, and the steady work of creating access for others. Kristen Lampkin represents another kind of leadership Indianapolis needs, one grounded in intention, accountability, and the belief that opportunity should not be limited to the people who have always had it.

What connects women like these is not just ambition, it’s intention. It is the decision to use their voices, skills, and influence to make Indianapolis stronger. They are not waiting for the perfect moment or ideal circumstances. They are leading now, and our city is better because of it.

I think that is what gives me the most hope. The next era of leadership is already taking shape around us, and many of the women leading it are doing so with courage, compassion, and a clear sense of responsibility to others. It is exciting to watch, and I am grateful we get to spotlight them.
